misunderstanding

setting the stage for a fairy tale

3 things:

1. fairy tale project
During the trip I was struck by the many discussions about language that naturally arose throughout the expedition, by local native speakers as well as visitors to the area. Understandings, misunderstandings, eagerness to understand as well as some reluctances to understand. there are so many dialogues going on, around and about the people, but are they talking to each other?

I also found a beautiful romantic side of the people, which I came to associate with my own love of fairy tales, and the idea that developed over the trip- to tell a fairy tale through putting these languages side by side, can the story still make sense if it is told by many people in similar and differing languages? does the meaning of the story change in its translation?

Due to lack of time and technical difficulties during the trip itself I have decided to go back if possible to collect material for the work. As I have more time I plan to write my own version of a fairy tale combining elements of the fairy tales from each place and tradition. If anyone has any suggestions, titles or material that might be of use to me I would be very grateful for the advice..
