Hotel Slavija at Trg Slavija in Belgrade

Here is just another example of the great Socialist Modernism in architecture in Belgrade. I have yet to read "Modernism in Serbia:The Elusive Margins of Belgrade Architecture, 1919-1941" by Ljiljana Blagojevic [http://mitpress.mit.edu/catalog/item/default.asp?ttype=2&tid=9566], but surely the post-second war works of this kind also deserves an equal publication. May be she is working on it right at this moment. Anyway, Belgrade has the best modernist work that I have ever actually seen. They are everywhere, it seems, and housing projects are especially remarkable. Its like being in Brazil, I would imagine [Have yet been there, but]. Its architecture that proves the fact that Yugoslavia was a tolerant communism. Hey. They had Rock n Roll.
